Legends of the Mediterranean city of Atlantis say it was made up of lush circular islands containing gold and other precious metals but separated by deep moats. Once a highly advanced civilization of moral spiritual humans they angered the gods when they became greedy and morally corrupt.
As punishment the gods expelled horrific fires of massive volcanic eruptions with earthquakes causing Atlantis to sink into the depths of the ocean . . . now a home shared by mermaids dolphins and multiple sea creatures
Sandstone cave drawings depict mermaids migrating with whales for protection from sea predators. Whales migrate huge distances each year from their summer feeding grounds in Arctic seas or east coast of Russia to warmer waters of Mexico and surrounding seas.
Despite the size of these large ocean creatures and stories of Moby Dick whales are not dangerous only curious friendly and sometimes shy making gentle companions for migrating mermaids
As upright swimmers that dwell in shallow tropical waters seahorses are unique in shape color ranging in size from 0.06” to 14” in length.
These mysterious marine creatures are masters of disguise can camouflage in plant life for safety slowest of all fish to escape due to their tiny fin on their back.
They are monogamous mating for life with the male bearing unborn young. Herds of seahorses latch onto seaweed and sea floor plants to ride the ocean currents and display like an amazing colorful garden for mermaids to enjoy . . .
Aquatic creature mermaids live mostly in the sea although they are known to sometimes come out of the sea and sit on rocks bordering the ocean. Not having yet been close enough or sure enough of their existence.for now they remain as only legends or folklore.
Mermaids sometimes sing to people and gods to enchant them distracting them and causing them to walk off decks or run their ships aground.
Other stories depict them as squeezing the life out of drowning men attempting to save them or some say they drown them out of spite. They were also said to carry humans down to their underwater kingdoms . . . This mermaid has lured the pirates parrot with her song . . .
The diamond in the necklace the Heart of the Ocean modeled after the Hope Diamond said to be worn by Louis XVI thought to be in the wreckage of the sunken Titanic was never found by the treasure hunter. As schools of tremendous whales migrate near Titanic the mermaid holds the lost necklace leaving the drawing of Rose the only evidence of its true existence . . . stories of sirens mermaids whales dolphins seahorses jellyfish and sharks and other sea creatures of our oceans
With soft bodies lacking skeletal structure or outer shell jellyfish are delicate easy to damage requiring water for support removed from the sea they collapse and die. Having no brain or nervous system these amazing sea creatures use their primitive senses to help them identify potential prey.
With over 200 species of jellyfish they remain one of the oceans most fascinating sea creatures ranging in a vast variety of shape size and magnificent colors for mermaids to enjoy . . .
Sharks are predators near the top of their marine food chain and regulate populations of species below them. Because sharks are cold blooded animals excessive increase in water temperature could kill some shark species and can have a cascading effect in our ocean life.
Sharks have been around long before the existence of dinosaurs while their appearance is quite different from sharks present today.
Sharks reach reproductive age around twelve to fifteen years generally giving birth to two or less young at a time making recovery of declined populations difficult.
Sharks depend on their keen senses to survive detecting blood in water from miles away. They are especially active at night mostly eating fish, crustaceans and other marine life including other sharks. Great whites like to surprise their prey generally seals and sea lions. Some are bottom-feeders attacking schooling fish and quantities of plankton.
Despite our fears of lurking sharks, attacks on humans are rare averaging ten deaths per year. While there are more than 465 species of sharks in our oceans usually attacks on humans involve tiger sharks, bull sharks or great white sharks.
Remember when entering the ocean . . . we are in their sea world and should respect these beautiful creatures and do all we can to protect them . . . .
